Variety description

The variety has synonyms Bläuling, Bluebird, and Blue Butterfly. This is a compact shrub 0.5 to 1.0 meters tall with dark green ovate serrated foliage, which may acquire reddish hues in autumn.

The lace-cap type inflorescences consist of fertile flowers in the center and large sterile ones along the edges. The color of the inflorescences depends on soil conditions: on acidic soils they become blue, on neutral or alkaline ones — pink or purple.

The plant prefers semi-shaded, wind-protected areas with moist and well-drained soil. The variety is sensitive to low temperatures and requires covering in regions with severe winters.
