The variety is a sturdy and dense shrub, reaching a height of about 90–100 cm. The flowers are semi-double and have a lavender-pink shade, with the coloration potentially varying from pink to blue depending on soil acidity. Flowering is abundant, occurring in May.

The variety is considered a traditional Japanese cultivar. In a number of botanical sources, it is also equated to Hydrangea serrata 'Azisai' from the Lacecap group. The plant is intended for decorative use in landscape design and open field gardening.
