Compact broadly spreading shrub, reaching a height of 1–1.2 meters by 10 years of age. Leaves are ovate-lanceolate, serrated, deep green, and may acquire a reddish hue in the sun.
Inflorescences are flat, lace-cap type, consisting of small blue-light blue fertile flowers in the center and larger sterile flowers along the edges. Flowering is prolonged, from June to August, on shoots of the previous and current year.
The plant prefers semi-shaded locations and moist, drained, acidic soils. It is characterized by high disease resistance and good winter hardiness, but requires covering in the conditions of the middle zone. Used in landscape design, container gardening, and for cut flowers.
