Variety description

The variety is named after the Iya Valley in the Japanese prefecture of Tokushima. Unlike the "lacecap" inflorescences typical for the species, this variety possesses dense, rounded inflorescences of the "temari" category.

The plant has a compact habit, characteristic of the species Hydrangea serrata, and reaches a height of about 1–1.5 meters. The variety is a selective breeding of a natural type and is traditionally grown in Japan, including in containers.
