The variety is a hybrid of Hydrangea serrata and Hydrangea macrophylla, formed as a deciduous shrub with a wide and flexible crown shape. The plant reaches a height of 1.2–1.4 meters. The leaves are large and capable of acquiring a brown-red shade by autumn.
Inflorescences are flat, 15–20 cm in diameter, of the lacecap type. Marginal sterile flowers have serrated edges and a light pink shade; central fertile flowers are blue. The color of the inflorescences varies from pink on neutral soils to blue or mauve on acidic ones. The flowering period lasts from July to September.
The variety has winter hardiness down to -23.5 °C. For cultivation, partial shade and rich moisture-retaining soils with a neutral or acidic reaction are preferred. It is used in decorative gardening as a specimen plant or in group plantings.
