The Ela variety was obtained as a result of breeding work in Slovenia by crossing the Petovio and Elite varieties. The tree is distinguished by medium or vigorous growth strength and forms a regularly shaped crown.
The fruiting type of the variety is intermediate: the crop is formed on annual shoots developing from two-year-old and older wood. Flowering occurs at medium or medium-late times, approximately 10 days earlier than the Franquette variety.
The variety shows relative resistance to such common walnut diseases as bacteriosis and anthracnose. Yield is characterized as regular and medium; the pollination type is partially self-fertile.
