The Barverdi variety is a diploid representative of the species Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.). Officially registered as a forage crop intended for silage harvesting and use as pasture feed.

In scientific publications, the variety was considered in the context of field studies aimed at assessing the impact of ryegrass mosaic virus and nitrogen fertilizer rates on productivity. Indicators of dry matter content and water-soluble carbohydrates at various stages of plant development were also analyzed.

Although the variety name may appear in some materials in trials of turf covers for the species perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne), it is officially classified in registers specifically as Italian ryegrass.
