The variety is a local landrace that originated from a seedling of natural occurrence. Historically, it was discovered at the Marjamaa farm in Luotsinsaari and is also known by the name Luotsinsaaren Syys. The variety has been grown since at least 1940.

The tree forms a wide crown with wide branch attachment angles, becoming sturdy over time. The autumn fruits are characterized as beautiful and tasty dessert apples with a reddish tint, intended for fresh consumption.
