The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and soil requirements: it prefers moist, fertile, and well-drained soils, and tolerates drought poorly. The variety is diploid and self-fertile, but shows better results in the presence of pollinators.

Fruits have a round or round-conical shape, often slightly asymmetrical. The ground color is yellow with a dark red blush and red stripes. The flesh is firm, creamy, and fine-grained. The variety is for universal use; fruits store for up to 5 months.

The variety is susceptible to fire blight. A red-fleshed clone exists, known as Abbondanza Rossa. The variety may also be referred to by the synonym Belfort.
