The name Abe Lincoln is a historical synonym for the Red Astrachan variety, which originated in the lower Volga region in the 1780s. The tree is notable for its large size and somewhat drooping branches. The variety belongs to the early-summer group, with fruit ripening occurring in June–July.

The fruits have a round-conical or slightly flattened shape. The thin, yellowish-green skin is almost entirely covered with a bright red blush with deep crimson stripes and a characteristic wax bloom. The flesh is white, sometimes with a red tint, juicy, aromatic, and has a sweet-and-sour taste.

The variety is a dessert type, suitable for preparing sauces, pies, and cider. The fruits do not have long keeping quality and lose their qualities when overripe on the tree; therefore, it is recommended to harvest them immediately after ripening. The variety is noted for its high yield.
