The variety is autochthonous to the Italian region of Piedmont and is included in studies of apple genetic diversity. The plant is characterized as having low susceptibility to scab, while showing medium sensitivity to powdery mildew and bitter pit.
The variety is productive, however, it has a tendency towards biennial bearing. High-quality fruit is achieved when grown in hilly terrain on dwarfing rootstocks with spindle-type crown training.
