The Borsdorfer variety has been known since the 16th century and is one of the oldest German varieties. This name encompasses a group of related clones, so the characteristics of specific trees may have slight differences. The tree is distinguished by vigorous growth and high winter hardiness, becoming very fruitful upon reaching maturity.
The fruits are small or medium-sized, have a round-flattened shape and a long thin stalk. The skin is shiny, waxy, pale yellow in color with a reddish blush and characteristic light speckles. The flesh is white, firm, juicy, and crisp. The taste is sweet with a spicy aroma reminiscent of rose or cinnamon.
The variety is intended for fresh consumption in the winter period; the fruits are ready for consumption from November to January. Due to its status as a historical variety, resistance to modern diseases may vary depending on the specific clone.
