The name Boscoop Bakker-LEY refers to the Belle de Boskoop group of varieties. The variety is triploid and self-sterile, therefore it requires a pollinator tree. The tree can be either vigorous or medium-vigorous, depending on the rootstock used.

The fruits are large, often characterized by an irregular shape and the presence of russeting on the skin, which has a greenish-gray or burgundy-orange blush. The flesh is juicy and crisp. The variety is considered an autumn variety, the fruits store well, and their aroma may intensify over time.

The main purpose of the variety is culinary processing, including baking, preparation of purees and sauces, although the fruits are also consumed fresh. The variety has sufficient resistance to adverse conditions, however, it is susceptible to scab.
