The general name "Camoesa" brings together many local variations, such as Camoesa de Coura, Camoesa da Azoia and Camoesa de Magueja. This variety was used as a parent form in the breeding of other local varieties, in particular Bravo de Esmolfe.

The fruits are characterized by an intense aroma and the ability for long winter storage. The apples are used both fresh and for the production of traditional cider. Due to their status as landrace varieties, disease resistance indicators and tree morphology do not have uniform industrial standards.
