The variety is of German origin and was actively cultivated in the past, but lost its commercial significance after the 1940s. Currently, it is primarily maintained in genetic resource collections.

The fruits are of medium size, about 60 mm in height and 65 mm in width, having a whitish-yellow color with a pink blush. The fruit flesh is firm, fine-grained, white or cream-colored, and distinguished by a sour taste.

The variety belongs to the late-maturing group; the harvest for the Gruner Calviner form occurs at the beginning of September. Due to the historical nature of the variety, its characteristics may vary depending on the specific clone and growing conditions.
