Fruits of this variety have a characteristic oblong-flattened shape, with a height-to-diameter ratio of less than 0.75. The fruit surface is yellow, with red spots or streaks present on the sun-exposed side. The taste and aroma qualities of the variety are considered unique.

The variety is adapted to extreme climatic conditions, including high solar radiation and moisture deficit. It is believed that the specific fruit qualities are linked to cultivation on iron-rich clay soils, which is reflected in the alternative variety name «Férrea».
