The variety originates from the municipality of Chitignano in the Casentino area. It is not a product of modern industrial breeding, but belongs to the category of heirloom local varieties supported by programs for the study and protection of biodiversity.

This variety is valuable as genetic heritage of the region and is used in local fruit growing, as well as within programs for the restoration of heirloom varieties.
