The variety is an ancient folk selection typical of the central and southern regions of Italy, described in botanical literature as early as the 19th century. The plant is characterized by modest size, compact growth habit, and bears fruit mainly on spurs.

The fruits are compressed-spherical to flattened in shape with slight ribbing. The greenish-yellow skin at harvest becomes bright yellow during storage, sometimes with a pinkish blush. The white flesh of the variety has a dense, crisp, and juicy texture, and is used fresh, as well as for making juices and jams.
