The tree is characterized by abundant and relatively early flowering. The fruits have a uniform, slightly elongated rounded shape with characteristic flat ribs. The skin is smooth, becoming oily upon ripening; the ground color varies from greenish-yellow to light yellow with a possible intense red blush on the sun-exposed side.

The flesh of the fruit is firm, juicy, and fine-grained, with a fresh moderately acidic taste. The variety is characterized by regular yields, hardiness, and tolerance to nocturnal and late frosts. The fruits are considered suitable for culinary processing, juice production, and cider making.

The variety is an effective pollinator for other apple varieties. Among the synonyms for the name, the most well-known are Rambour, Backapfel, Frauenapfel, Grüne Atlasrenette, Kindskopfapfel, and Lothringer Rambur.
