This name refers not to a single unified variety, but to a historical group of apple trees comprising various local forms cultivated in different regions of Germany. Well-known representatives of the group include varieties such as Mensfelder Glanzrenette, Hofheimer Glanzrenette, and Oberrieder Glanzrenette.

The fruits of this group are predominantly of the winter maturity group. Harvest maturity occurs in October, consumption maturity starts from November; when stored, the fruits can maintain their quality until spring. The apples are medium to large in size, with a shiny skin that becomes greasy over time, and a medium-firm juicy flesh with a harmonious sweet-sour taste.

Plants of the group are characterized by relative hardiness, however, they possess medium resistance to diseases such as scab and powdery mildew. The use of the fruits is universal: they are suitable for fresh consumption and for processing.
