The Bohnapfel variety is a chance seedling discovered in the second half of the 18th century in the Rhineland-Palatinate region. The medium-sized fruits have green skin with reddish marbling. The flesh is firm, acidic, with a low sugar content and faint aroma, although it becomes juicier and looser during storage.

The winter variety ripens in October, reaches consumer maturity by the end of December, and is capable of maintaining marketable qualities until June. Currently, the variety belongs to the cultural heritage category and is grown predominantly in collection and amateur gardens.
