The variety is a mutant of the Jonagold variety, selected due to the characteristics of fruit coloring. In terms of its general characteristics, including growth vigor, crown shape, ripening time, and keeping quality, it is similar to the parent variety.

Goldpurpur fruits are classified as less intensely colored compared to bright red mutants, with the color depending on the weather conditions of the season. The variety belongs to winter and commercial table varieties.

The trees are characterized by moderate resistance to scab, powdery mildew, and fire blight, as well as sensitivity to low temperatures in severe winters.
