The Ribston Pippin variety originated in the early 18th century in England as a chance seedling. The tree has medium growth vigor and forms a wide crown. The variety is demanding regarding soil and climatic conditions, preferring a mild climate with high air humidity, and shows susceptibility to powdery mildew and canker.

The fruits have a regular round shape. The skin is dry, yellow-green at the time of harvest, and acquires a golden hue and a red striped blush as it ripens. The yellowish-white flesh is initially firm, becoming juicy and mealy over time. Consumer maturity of the fruits occurs in the period from December to February-March.
