The name Goldströmling is not an independent variety, but acts as a historical or folk name for the apple variety Kasseler Renette. The variety has been known since the 19th century and is presumably an accidental seedling.

The fruits belong to the winter maturity group: harvesting is carried out in October, and consumer maturity occurs in February–March. The apples possess good taste qualities with a characteristic spicy, vinous, or sharp flavor and can be used for culinary purposes or the production of juices and wine.
