The fruits have an uneven, knobby surface covered with rough grey or black russeting, sometimes with a yellowish-green background and a faint red blush. The flesh is cream-colored, sweet, with a distinct spicy aroma, sometimes with citrus or nutty notes.
The tree has moderate vigor and an upright, spreading canopy. The variety is self-sterile and requires a pollinator for fruit set. The harvest is collected in mid-to-late October, and the fruits keep until February–March.
The variety is used as a dessert apple and is suitable for baking and cider making. It is considered a hardy and productive tree and belongs to traditional historical varieties.
