The Kleine Graue Renette variety is a synonym for the heirloom apple variety Carpentin, also known as Carpentin Renette and Kleiner Lederapfel. The variety was described in the early 19th century and belongs to traditional types adapted to historical cultivation conditions.

The fruits are about 2¼ inches in width and 2 inches in height, sometimes reaching 3 inches. The fruit surface is rough and russeted, and the skin color often has a reddish tint. The flesh is dazzling white and has a juicy and piquant-acidic taste.

The plant is considered relatively less susceptible to a number of diseases and pests compared to modern commercial varieties. Detailed agronomic parameters for tree height or lodging resistance are not presented in the sources.
