The variety was obtained around 1825 in England as a chance seedling of the "Ribston Pippin" variety. Trees are characterized by medium vigor and, depending on the rootstock and crown formation, reach a height of 4–5 meters.
The medium-sized fruits have a round or slightly flattened shape. The skin color varies from orange-red to red with yellow-green patches. The yellowish flesh is firm, juicy, and has a distinct aroma.
The variety ripens in October, and the consumption period lasts until March. The apple tree is used as a dessert variety for fresh consumption, culinary purposes, and baking. The plant is considered quite resistant to diseases but demanding of growing conditions.
