The variety is late-maturing; the fruits ripen in October and can be stored until March. The tree is characterized by slow growth, reaching large sizes with age. The medium-sized fruits have a red color and white flesh, and possess a sour taste.

The variety is winter hardy and is not self-fertile, therefore it requires the presence of a pollinator variety. It is used as a fruit tree in orchards, including in espalier form. The variety is of scientific interest in agronomic studies of flowering transition mechanisms.
