The variety is historical, originating as a chance seedling in the Upper Lusatia region on the border of Germany and the Czech Republic. The fruits belong to the winter consumption period and retain their quality until approximately December.

The apples are of medium size and globular shape. The fruit surface is colored orange-red marbled with stripes. The taste of the fruits is described as sweet-sour.

The variety has high resistance to scab, while a strong susceptibility to powdery mildew is noted. The plant habit depends on the type of rootstock onto which the variety is grafted.
