The Nägelchesapfel variety, also known as Nägeliapfel, is a regional pomological specialty of the Rhineland. Currently, trees of this variety are rarely found, which is why biodiversity organizations are documenting and describing them for the preservation of cultural heritage.

The description of the fruit and tree appearance and recommendations for growing conditions are recorded in specialized handbooks and registers of local varieties of the region. Detailed morphological characteristics and data on disease resistance are contained in printed publications dedicated to the pomology of the Rhineland.
