The Pi 80 rootstock is a hybrid of M.9 and M.4 cultivars. In terms of the growth vigor of trees grafted onto it, it is close to the M.26 rootstock, belonging to the semi-dwarf group. The plant propagates well vegetatively in stool beds and is characterized by low root suckering.

The cultivar has high resistance to collar rot (Phytophthora cactorum) and surpasses M.9 in terms of winter hardiness, but it is susceptible to fire blight. Due to moderate growth vigor and the characteristics of its root system development, trees on this rootstock may require the installation of support stakes.

Cultivars grafted onto this rootstock are characterized by early onset of bearing, good productivity, and high fruit quality. The rootstock is suitable for commercial fruit growing, including the establishment of intensive and semi-intensive orchards on soils of moderate fertility.
