The variety is a sport (natural mutation) of the old Scottish variety James Grieve. The fruits have soft, very juicy flesh and a refreshing taste. The main visual difference from the base variety lies in the skin color, which is covered with an intense, almost solid dark red blush or stripes.

The plant is a deciduous tree with a crown type ranging from upright to spreading, the height of which depends on the rootstock used. The variety is considered versatile, suitable for both fresh consumption and culinary use.

The ripening period is early autumn; harvesting takes place in early September. Agrotechnical requirements, including the need for pollinators and crown type, correspond to the characteristics of the original James Grieve variety.
