Rechter Pfannkuchen is not considered an independent variety, but serves as one of the names for the variety Altländer Pfannkuchenapfel. This variety is also known under the name Echter Pfannkuchenapfel.

The origin of the variety is linked to a chance seedling found in 1850 in the Altes Land region, Hamburg. This variety differs from another well-known variety — Horneburger Pfannkuchenapfel.
