Most often, the variety Roter Herbstkalvill, which is also known as Red Autumn Calville, is identified as Roter Paradiesapfel. The variety is very old; the first mention dates back to 1617. The tree is vigorous, forms a broad crown, and blooms early, due to which the inflorescences are sensitive to frosts.

The fruits are medium to large in size, conical, with five pronounced ribs. The skin becomes bright red or black-red upon ripening. The flesh is juicy, loose, often with red veins, and possesses a sweet-and-sour taste with a raspberry or strawberry aroma. It is used primarily as a table variety for fresh consumption.
