The variety has a vigorously growing tree with strong, long branches covered with pubescence. The plant's leaves are large, oval-shaped. The variety's yield in historical sources is assessed inconsistently: from satisfactory to low.

The fruits are distinguished by a tough, firm skin and beautiful coloration. The variety is valued for its capacity for long-term storage, which has historically been considered high. Due to the fact that the name "Rouge Rayée" literally means "red striped", it is often used as a descriptive characteristic for other varieties.
