The variety is of English origin from the county of Somerset. The tree is of medium vigor, characterized by a spreading and branched crown shape, and requires regular pruning. The variety is characterized as very resistant to scab, but susceptible to anthracnose, and is also prone to biennial bearing.

The fruits are small in size, yellow in color with a red flush and stripes. By fruit type, the variety belongs to the bittersharp group; it possesses high acidity and astringency. Harvesting takes place in November; the variety is demanding regarding the number of winter chilling hours.
