The variety is a fourth-generation bud mutation in the Red Delicious line. The tree is characterized by a compact habit and short internodes, which allows for its use in intensive orchards.

The fruits are similar in their characteristics to the Red Delicious group. The variety is sensitive to fruit deformation, which can be caused by low temperatures, precipitation, or the use of certain chemical thinning agents.

Agricultural practices require specific pruning techniques typical for spur-type apple tree forms.
