The variety originates from the gardens of Vallø Castle in Denmark, and its selection is attributed to the court gardener Gentz. The fruits are characterized as dessert-type, medium-sized.

There are disagreements regarding the identity of the variety with "Femø æble". In some sources they are considered synonyms, while others classify them as separate types. The variety "Femø æble" is described as triploid, resistant to scab and powdery mildew, but susceptible to apple canker, with fruits possessing notes of orange aroma.
