The variety is a synonym for Roter Mond, bred in the early 20th century by crossing Malus niedzwetzkyana with cultivated varieties. The tree has reddish bark, leaves, and flowers, reaching a height of 3 to 8 meters with a crown width of up to 6 meters.

It is classified as an early-autumn or autumn variety, with harvest beginning at the end of August. The medium-sized fruits have a tart sweet-and-sour taste and are dark red in color both on the outside and on the inside.

The variety is distinguished by high resistance to scab, but is susceptible to powdery mildew. Due to its specific taste and high anthocyanin content, the apples are used for making juices, compotes, purées, jellies, and in ornamental gardening.
