The variety is a historical representative of traditional high-stem orchard cultivation in the Western Palatinate region of Germany. After a period of neglect, it was rediscovered during search campaigns and brought back into cultivation.

The apples are medium or small in size and have a characteristic red striped coloration. The variety belongs to the early or mid-early maturity group and was traditionally used as a table apple for fresh consumption.
