The variety belongs to the Virginia type (bright leaf tobaccos for flue-curing) and was obtained through interspecific hybridization using wild species of the genus Nicotiana, in particular Nicotiana glauca. The plant is characterized by slow ripening and a tendency to form a small number of side suckers.

A key feature of the variety is high resistance to black root rot (Berkeleyomyces basicola) and to necrotic strains of potato virus Y (PVY). The variety demonstrates a high yield of raw material of the highest commercial grades when agrotechnical conditions are observed.

Successful cultivation requires medium-loamy, slightly acidified soils. Agrotechnics require a high level of phosphorus nutrition with a cautious approach to nitrogen fertilizer application on fertile plots to prevent their excess.
