The variety is the result of a breeding program aimed at overcoming the vulnerability of traditional olive trees to the soil-borne fungal disease Verticillium dahliae. The development of this variety was a response to the need to reduce yield losses in olive-growing regions.

A key agronomic characteristic of the variety is its high resistance to Verticillium wilt. Studies also include an analysis of the plant's physiological responses to water deficit, which confirms its drought tolerance.
