The Istrska črnica tree is characterized by vigorous growth, a wide canopy of medium density, and long flexible branches, reaching a height of up to 13 meters. The leaves are large, pointed, and dark green with a silvery-gray tint.
The fruits are medium to large in size, elliptical in shape, and turn black when ripe. Yield is characterized as low or medium with a pronounced biennial bearing pattern. The variety is not self-fertile and requires the presence of pollinators such as Istrska belica or Buga.
The variety possesses high frost resistance, resistance to wind, and also to olive knot and peacock spot diseases. The fruits contain about 23% oil, which is valued for its piquant taste with hints of sweetness and freshness.
