The Imperiale variety is widespread in several regions of Italy, particularly in the province of Enna in Sicily, where it is also known by the synonym Jannusa. In agrotechnical terms, it is considered a dual-purpose variety suitable for both extra virgin oil processing and fresh consumption.
The plant is a self-sterile variety. To ensure the pollination and fruit set process in orchards, the presence of pollinator varieties such as Ogliarola Messinese and Biancolilla is required.
