The Jabaluna variety is a traditional Spanish variety intended primarily for olive oil production. Genetic studies using SSR markers indicate a profile similar to the Escarabajuelo de Úbeda variety.

The plant exhibits resistance or tolerance to Verticillium wilt caused by the fungus Verticillium dahliae. The variety is also being considered in scientific research as a subject for studying adaptation to soil salinity.
