The Sonček variety is a local Slovenian variety traditionally used for human nutrition and for forage purposes. In the modern food industry, the grain of the variety is used in the production of gluten-free bakery products.

The seeds have a light, cream or white color. Yields in field trials vary from 1000 to 2250 kg/ha depending on growing conditions and sowing density. Genetic analysis confirms that the variety represents a distinct group among other local accessions.

The variety is regularly the subject of scientific research aimed at studying genetic diversity, the influence of agricultural practices on productivity, and grain quality characteristics.
