The variety is a world-renowned and widespread female pistachio variety. It is characterized by late flowering in late April and late fruit ripening, which occurs in early October under California conditions. The plant requires about 1000 hours of winter chilling and 3500 heat units.

The tree is dioecious, therefore male pollinator trees such as Peters or Famoso are necessary for harvest. The variety is characterized by alternate bearing. The fruits are valued for their large size, high taste qualities, ease of separation from the tree, and good shell splitting, which facilitates their processing.
