The variety was obtained as part of a breeding program of the universities of Bologna and Milan. Its development was aimed at improving fruit quality and adaptation to the climatic conditions of the Po Valley, characterized by sharp temperature fluctuations in the early spring period.
The plant is self-compatible, which is confirmed by field experiments with a fruit set rate of about 8%. The goal of breeding during the creation of the variety was to achieve high performance in appearance, flesh firmness, and delayed fruit ripening.
