The variety is a local Italian landrace of folk selection, historically grown in the province of Naples. At present, it is classified as a "forgotten" or "neglected" variety, preserved within the framework of initiatives for the protection of biological heritage.

The variety is genetically distinct from many modern commercial counterparts, which is confirmed by studies of genetic markers. Detailed agronomic descriptions, including characteristics of productivity or disease resistance, are absent in open sources.
