The Valenciano variety originates from the Valencia region of Spain and is classified as a local traditional variety. In modern agronomy, it is rarely considered as a commercial fruit crop, acting primarily as an object for comparative analysis and a parental form in breeding research.

The plant is characterized by susceptibility to the plum pox virus, known as sharka. Detailed morphological characteristics of the variety, such as tree height or ripening dates, are not detailed in open scientific publications, as Valenciano appears more often in genetic studies, for example, in crosses for mapping resistance genes.
